Dear Salt Lake City Auto Glass,

I have started to notice a few small chips on my auto glass. I honestly have no idea how they got there or even when they happened. I currently am unemployed and really do not have a lot of money to spend on repairing my windshield. I have heard though that you should always get your auto glass fixed right away so that nothing worse can occur. I have been told though that there are some do it yourself kits that are available at any hardware store. Do these kits really work? If so, how do I know which one to get? It seems that there are so many different brands and prices for all of them. Can you please give me some information on these do it yourself kits and how I should pick the right one for me? Thank you so much for all of your help.

Dear Unemployed Chip Fixer,

We completely understand where you are coming from. Being unemployed is not only a bummer, but it really takes a toll on your bank account. We have also heard about these do it yourself kits and have some information that may be able to help you.

First off, you will want to go to a larger hardware store because they will have the best selection. We understand that there are many brands and price ranges available these days. The first thing you want to figure out is how much money you are comfortable spending on one of these kits. There is no need to spend a ton of money on them. At that point you may as well as just get it professionally fixed. Once you have found the price range you want, you have instantly cut down on the amount of do it yourself kits that are available to you.

Second, you will want to figure out how many chips you will want to be fixing with this particular kit. If you have many chips that need to be fixed, you will want to make sure that the kit you purchase has enough resin in it for all of them. It will usually say on the package how many times it can be used. It will also tell you if it is specifically made for cracks or chips which is important to look for.

Lastly, make sure that the package you are getting has everything you will need. It will become quite obvious what should and should not be in a kit. Most of them will have very similar tools so if the one you are looking at seems to be short a tool then you should probably put that one back.

If you are still confused when you get to the store, the easiest thing to do is ask for help. There will be associates there that will be able to help you find the perfect kit for you in no time.
